Hi, I’m Paul.

I’m considering cork sheets underlayment for a basement floor.

Hi Paul. Just the cork sheets? are you planning on installing a floor?

Visitor 34086726

5:06 PM

Yes, vinyl plank flooring

Cancork Floor

5:06 PM

Ooops. Vinyl doesn’t like “under pad”.

Which vinyl did you purchase?

Brand name is StainMaster from Lowes

Nope…doesn’t like cork underpad. You need to lay straight to concrete.

5:07 PM

Oh!

What does “doesn’t like cork underpad” mean?

Cancork Floor

5:08 PM

Yah…no one tells you that LVT (planked vinyl) can only go down over “solid” or rigid substrates.

So “cork” is considered flooring “underlay” or “underpad”. Only HIGH END Armstrong vinyl and CoreTech will allow cork or any other under pad.

But cork isn’t really that soft. I wanted it as a means to insulate the concrete floor a bit.

Vinyl planks will twist and curl and “unzip” at the edges when laid over cork or other forms of “under pad”…ruins all your hard work and voids your warranty on the vinyl = “doesn’t like under pad”.

I see. Well that’s a bit of a bummer.

Cancork Floor

5:10 PM

sorry. Underpad is underpad. Vinyl is vinyl. Narry the twain shall meet.

Cancork Floor

5:11 PM

Yup. Tell me about it. I give out this “bad news” multiple times per day.

If you want a warm floor with cushion = cork floating floor.

okay, thanks for your help…

Coretech is one of the ONLY vinyl floors that allow 3mm cork underlay = $3.69/sf at USFloors.

We have a vinyl like cork flooring =10.5mm Fusion Cork flooring = vinyl plank “replacement” product that is super tough and is allowed to work with acoustic underlayment such as 6mm or even 12mm cork underlay (which traditional vinyl is NOT allowed to work with).

All our cork floating flooring are allowed to work with cork underlayment.

A better floor for your kids

Feel free to take the vinyl back and try something else.
