Desert Arable Cork Flooring

Rippled amber, honey and butter tones that mimic sand dunes at dusk: one of the only cork floors patterned after sand instead of wood.

Most floors try to look like wood. Desert Arable does not. Its light, rippled patterning of amber, honey and butter is set to mimic sand dunes at dusk, with long delicate strands of multi-coloured cork winding their way through each plank. Every plank is unique, subtle yet strong in character, and once assembled the floor reads as one smooth, continuous, sinuous pattern with no "chunks" of cork breaking the flow.

Under that finish sits a 10 mm (25/64 in) floating plank: a 3 mm natural cork top layer over a 6 mm E1 class high density fibreboard core, with a 1 mm cork underlay already attached. Planks measure 900 mm x 300 mm (35 7/16 in x 11 13/16 in) and click together with the industry-leading Uniclic profile, so there is no glue and no nails.

Cork's cellular structure makes this floor warm and comfortable underfoot, insulating against both acoustical vibrations and thermal fluctuations. It keeps unwanted heat energy out in summer and holds warmth in the room in winter, which can save you money on heating and cooling. The resilient, low-slip surface is an excellent choice for seniors, children, or anyone dealing with arthritis or joint pain, and it is rated for above, on, and below grade installs, so basements are fair game.

Why this floor

• Impact sound reduction of 13 dB IIC (Impact Insulation Class, ISO 717-2): keeps noise from transmitting down through the floor or up through the ceiling.

• Rated Domestic class 23 and Light Commercial class 38, finished with a high-resistance Natural Shield water-based polyurethane that is stain and impact resistant.
• Greenguard Gold certified and made with formaldehyde-free adhesives, from a completely natural, recurring, replenishable material.
• Hypo-allergenic and naturally anti-microbial: repels dust, hair and small particles, and resists insects, mould and mildew, a beneficial alternative to carpet.
• Approved above, on, and below grade, and compatible with hydronic and underfloor radiant heating.

Important product note

Desert Arable is deliberately free of large "chunks" of cork: its hallmark is smooth, subtle movement built from long, winding multi-coloured strands. If you prefer bold, chunky cork patterning, look at Salami or Autumn Leaves instead.
