Ashen Chestnut Cork Flooring
Swiss-made light brown plank with a semi-matte wood-embossed finish and class 33 commercial-use rating. Published impact-sound data lists 18 dB; review the tested assembly.
Ashen Chestnut has a light brown, wood-embossed, semi-matte surface. Each plank measures 1235 mm x 200 mm (48 5/8 in x 7 7/8 in) and is 11 mm (7/16 in) thick.
The construction is a true three-layer sandwich: a 3 mm cork top layer over a 6.8 mm E1 grade moisture-resistant HDF core, finished underneath with a 1.2 mm agglomerated cork backing that acts as a built-in underlay. The surface is sealed with HotCoating protection and a high-resistance Natural Shield water-based polyurethane finish, which is how a natural floor earns an AC5 abrasion rating.
Cork's honeycomb structure packs roughly 40 million air-filled cells into every cubic centimetre. That is what makes this floor permanently elastic, gentle on ankles, and warm enough for barefoot winters. It is bark, harvested without felling a single tree: cork oaks live up to 200 years and can be peeled up to 20 times.
Rated for on, above and below grade, compatible with hydronic and underfloor radiant heat, and made in Switzerland, it fits bedrooms and basements as readily as a busy storefront.
Why this floor
- 18 dB impact sound reduction (EN ISO 717-2), with a 1.2 mm agglomerated cork backing built into every plank.
- Class 33 commercial and class 23 domestic usage rating (EN 16511) with AC5 abrasion resistance: storefront durability in a natural floor.
- Watertight joints on a patented Uniclic click system; the HDF locking strength exceeds 500 kg per linear metre (ISO 24334), so joints stay closed for good.
- Roughly 40 million cells per cm³ give real thermal insulation (thermal resistance 0.108 m²K/W): no cold feet, even in winter.
- HotCoating surface protection plus a Natural Shield water-based polyurethane finish, backed by a 15-year residential warranty.
- Low-emission build: E1 grade HDF core, emissions in conformity with AgBB, with GreenGuard Gold and formaldehyde test documentation below.
- Radiant heat compatible (hydronic and underfloor systems) and rated for on, above and below grade installation.
