Its light, silvery grain reads calm and natural in almost any room, and it has remained a steady favourite across North America for good reason: it works with everything from pale Scandinavian palettes to darker, moodier interiors. The tile itself is solid natural cork from Portugal, top to bottom: a 6 mm cork wear surface over a cork core with a cork backing. At 6 mm (1/4 in), it is noticeably thicker than the 4 mm tiles commonly sold as standard, and that extra material is what gives it its cushioned, forgiving feel underfoot. That resilience matters day to day. Cork's low-slip, slightly yielding surface is easier on knees, hips, and joints, which makes it a favourite for seniors, children, and anyone dealing with arthritis or joint pain. Silver Birch is offered here on a 6 mm (1/4 in) tile platform rather than the 4 mm thickness commonly sold elsewhere as standard fare; the same pattern is also maintained in an 8 mm tile format.
